2012 Rio Maggio Falerio Pecorino
The ancient varietal Pecorino all but disappeared by the 1970's. The industry at the time called for quantity, not quality, and the low-yielding vine went to near-extinction before recovering through the efforts of Signore Guido Cocci-Grifoni.
Rio Maggio expresses their rocky terroir, the soul of their land, through the Pecorino from their Colle Monteverde vineyard. The grapes are fermented in cement tank, followed by 8-10 months on the lees. The wine shows a good balance with its high acidity. Smoky melon and limestone minerality dominate the nose and palate - a full-bodied sipper.
Serve at 57° with fish dishes or creamy cheeses.
